The hallway/front door!

The view from my window--the courtyard/entrance to the apartment building. And when you look to the left at the entrance of the courtyard, the East River is right there! It is so pretty!
Sometimes I still can't believe I am living on my own like a big girl in the city, but it's very exciting!
Moving on--I am still currently interning at RWS. I'm so fortunate that they extended my internship until the end of November. I have the best time with the people I work with, and now not only are they my "employers" or "associates," but they are my friends, too. I'm still learning new things everyday about the industry and it's really helping me decide the path I want to take in the future. It's been exciting, too, because I've been doing some very different things than I ever thought I would do. After I came back from my month long vacation, we started holiday marketing. Holiday marketing is how RWS was started and we all got to do what Ryan did to start the company. We called malls to see if they wanted any holiday entertainment for this upcoming season. Well, calling strangers is definitely not one of my favorite pasttimes, so that was a bit of a challenge. I called 3oo malls within 2 months, got rejected several several times, 299 to be exact, but...I booked a mall!!! This is a huge deal, 1) because after 300 malls, it is really exciting to hear a "Yes, I'm interested!" 2) I have given business to this company that has already given so much to me, and hopefully this business will continue long after my internship is over. I also am preparing for my 2nd Kohl's Line Item Review for Spring 2011 that's coming up next week. I helped with this in May and it was so cool getting to work with the fashion industry. I feel like the best way to describe what I'm doing is "managing" the event. I'm doing inventory of the items for the review, will be overseeing everything the day of the event, and then coordinating the load-out after the event is over. I've been given more responsibility this time around and it's really exciting for me. I guess I'm starting to see myself in a different light regarding the business/corporate world and seeing success in it. (PhD in Living.)
On to other things--I went to my first casino ever, Foxwoods Casino and Resort, in Connecticut for Tarrah's birthday at the end of July. Tarrah, Robbie, Danielle, Danielle's husband Jens (pronounced Yence lol), and I went up for the weekend and I had such a great time! I had never gambled before or experienced anything like it! It was fun, I played a few games and slots, won a little, lost a little, so pretty much came out even (fine by me!) And we also went to the big show at the casino that Jens was actually in. He was the violinist for Cirque Dreams-Jungle Fantasy starring Deborah Gibson. And we got to meet her! It was so much fun that weekend, meeting 80's popstars, experience casino life, hanging out with coworkers/friends!
Another fun weekend was when Jordan came back up to visit! He wanted to come back to the city when it was warm and he came at the perfect time! We did most of the touristy things last time he was here, so this visit was a bit more relaxed. We went to Central Park for a day and he got to see where I work and I took him to see his first Broadway show (my favorite), The Phantom of the Opera! We also met up with Jessica Martin (also a BG girl) and her boyfriend John Carver (also a WKU guy) and went to Jack Dempsey's (the UK bar here in NYC) to watch the WKU/UK game. We all went in our WKU shirts of course, but were still welcomed with open arms into the pub, because after all, we ALL are there to support football in the state of Kentucky! It was a great time and even though WKU didn't win, it was a night the four of us will never forget, even though it was as simple as a group of Kentucky kids watching football and hanging out in NYC, we just had the best time! And of course, it's bound to be a memorable time when Jordan visits! Haha!
And last weekend, I did another first for me here in the city--I went to a Yankees game! It was SO much fun! Marj had told me she wanted to go see a game and found tickets to the Yankees/Red Sox game. We jumped on those tickets because what a good game it was going to be! We had amazing seats, first level behind the 3rd base foul pole. I definitely hope it's not the last game I go see. Yankee Stadium is beautiful and so clean! I am so glad I got to experience a game (even though they didn't win) because it was definitely on my NYC bucket list!
I also have to share that 2 of my favorite weekends that happened over the past few months are the 2 weddings I was fortunate enough to make it to for my beautiful sorority sisters. The first one was for Lynsi Conn, now Mrs. Lynsi Barnhill and the second was for Britney Jewell, now Mrs. Britney Harris :). Both weddings were fabulous, the girls were gorgeous, and it was absolutely amazing getting to see some of my dearest and favorite friends. It was a big sorority reunion! I have missed these girls so so SO much because they are a big part of the reason that I knew I could make it here in NYC. They all are so incredibly supportive (as all of you are who graciously read my blog) of my being here in this big city. It always is so great to see them and catch up and act like we're in college all over again! :)
I'm almost done, I promise! A bit more exciting news to share with you all: I am fortunate enough to get the opportunity to perform in this city not just once more, or twice more, but I get to sing three more times with Essential Voices USA (previously The Clurman Singers.) We sing at Symphony Space this month, and in Carnegie Hall (again!) in November AND December. I've already had a few rehearsals and I am just so thrilled to be given the opportunity to perform again, especially in Carnegie Hall! Our first concert is in 2 1/2 weeks so I am getting very excited! How blessed am I that I am getting to perform FOUR times in New York City within a year's time! So lucky!!!
Well, I think I'll let you all rest your eyes now after writing what feels to be a novel-haha! Again, I apologize for my lengthy absence, but thank you so much for continuing to read and support me after having been in NYC for a whole year! Can you believe it?! I sure can't...a whole year!
Oh, and I promise I won't take so long to write next time:)
