"Take Me To The World"
I hope I still have followers after my lengthy absence from the blog world! Again, no excuse, has been another whirlwind month! And then I was thinking, "well, what in the world am I going to blog about? All I seem to do is work!" Then I realized that this is exactly why I have my blog, to inform anyone and everyone what it is I am doing in NYC, work or play.
I still love my job--I no longer call it an internship because I work everyday and it feels like a job. And lucky for me, RWS has asked me to stay on until the end of the year! Job security in NYC, I love it! I told them that I still wanted to audition because that's what I came here for and I don't to regret not trying enough. However, I might realize while doing audition and working that I'd rather be on the business and planning end of entertainment...we shall see! I am just fortunate that they are letting me work and audition at the same time--can't get much better than that!
So, I know I've given you some insight on what it is I do, but I'll share with you some of the really fun stuff I've gotten to do this past month!
1st weekend of June: Some coworkers and I were flown to Cedar Point for the opening weekend of "Rock Band LIVE!" where we met everyone else that works for RWS. (Rock Band LIVE! is a brand new show at Cedar Point, Canada's Wonderland, and we have a national tour out of the show as well.) This show is the baby of RWS and MTV and I'm so happy I sort of got to be a part of process of its growth and development. So we fly out to Cedar Point on Saturday morning and several of us got to spend the day riding the coasters (amazing I might add) and just having fun around the theme park. Later that afternoon after we all got cleaned up, we went to a presentation of the show and it was awesome! It was so great seeing all the hard work of my office pay off with an exciting and rockin' show! After the show, we had an opening night party which was just a blast! And to show just how small of a world it is, 2 of my college classmates that I graduated with from the Theatre and Dance department work at Cedar Point and I had NO idea! We laughed and caught up while we were at the party and it made the night even better! The next day, we all packed up and headed back to NYC!
2nd weekend of June: I went along with Tarrah, one of our producers, to help open a show at Lake Compounce Amusement Park in Bristol, Connecticut. This park is only 2 hours from the city so we just drove up there. It was so fun and interesting seeing hands-on how everyone works at a park to get the entertainment ready. There really is so much that goes on behind the scenes at theme parks when you see the shows there. Lights, sound, mics, costumes, blocking, scenic, the list goes on and on! Didn't really get to do the ride thing at this park, but it is a smaller park and I really didn't mind. I did go on one ride though, and it was the neatest thing because it went up the side of a mountain and through the mountain--it was so fun.
3rd weekend of June: More like a weekend plus three days. I got to go up to Santa's Village Theme Park in New Hampshire and help with opening weekend. Again, SO much work and energy was put into this weekend and it was so fascinating to witness it and be a part of it! These nights were pretty late, as we stayed in the theatre till about 12:45 every night till the show opened. I ended up working on a lot of costumes (thank you Costume Construction and Shura at WKU to prepare me for this!) and sewed and bedazzled till the cows came home. And the bedazzling isn't what you might think it is--it isn't that crazy gun with weird plastic gems, we bedazzle with Swarovski crystals with the gadget that I'm not even sure how to describe. We blinged these costumes out and they looked great on stage! Also while I was at Santa's Village, I got to see real live reindeer! In Kentucky, you see deer everywhere, so no bid deal. But reindeer, well, they are just something else! They didn't look too good when I saw them because they were shedding their fur and antlers so they looked kind of scary, but still, I saw the animals that haul Santa's sleigh every Christmas ;)
Including these weekends, I have not spent a consecutive weekend in the same location for seven weekends. 1)Bowling Green for Anne Taylor's birthday. 2) Sandusky, OH at Cedar Point. 3)Bristol, CT at Lake Compounce. 4)Jefferson, NH at Santa's Village. 5)NYC this past weekend. 6)Florida this coming weekend. 7)Bowling Green the weekend after that! I'm all over this country! But I love it--I've seen things and done things I would never have gotten the opportunity to see or do. Life is just one big adventure taking me from one thing to another and I can't wait to see what the weekends of the future hold for me:)
